Every March, we get ready for a wave of lambs! Our flock of 50 ewes typically give birth to a little over 100 lambs. We keep 60 and sell the rest. Our lambs are born in the barn and they stay with their mom for the first 3-5 days. This gives them time to settle and they get all the colostrum they need. We then graduate them to their own barn where all the lambs are raised together on high quality milk replacer, hay and lamb feed. Our lambs are all dairy breed crosses. They are majority East Friesian and Lacaune - the two main sheep dairy breeds in the U.S,. We then breed in a small amount of Tunis and Assaf. This cross breeding gives them increased parasite resistance, hardiness in the heat and a better capacity to graze while still being heavy milkers.

Important to Note:

  • We sell ewe lambs and breeding quality ram lambs at about 20 pounds or 3 weeks of age, typically this is mid April. We don’t wean lambs off milk replacer until they reach at least 30 pounds so you’ll need to be prepared to bottle feed your lambs for at least two weeks after they come home with you.

  • They will have had their first CD+T shot but will need their second “booster” shot. We feel strongly that lambs do best when given the CD+T vaccine. This is the one universally recommended vaccine and we do not make exceptions, all lambs on our farm receive this vaccine.

  • We dock tails on all our ewe lambs but we do not dock them close. They will still have a tail that hangs down to just above their udder. We dock the end so that we don’t get whipped in the face by tails when we milk, but they still do have all their tail wagging muscles intact. We do not make exceptions on this. Ram lambs do not have docked tails.

  • We are available for questions on how to raise your lambs . . . but within reason. Please understand that we are in charge of a lot of our own animals in the spring and there are only so many hours in the day. If you have never raised sheep before, please do your own research, find a local mentor and reach out to your local extension agents so that you build a solid set of resources for help as you raise your animals.

Ewe lambs and breeding quality ram lambs are $300 each. We require a 50% non-refundable deposit for every lamb that you reserve. The rest is to be paid at or before pickup. Click below to pay your deposit today!
